Roads & 278 Works

Whether setting out private or adopted roads, ensuring accurate line and level at each stage is key to deliver a high quality product to the end client. Below are a few samples of roads I've worked on across the UK.

Multi-stage road construction

There were multiple obstacles during this phase as design changes, service dis-connections and the small size of this project meant I had to monitor and manage works precisely to avoid programme delays.

200m long road in Somerset

One of the longest straight stretches of road I had to work on. Difficult ground conditions and weather caused issues at the drainage stage, however, once formation level was reached, the setting out of the conservation kerbs meant monitoring the straight line was not deviating in any way during construction.

Surveying a road prior to tarmac

I took this image while I was surveying the stone level prior to tarmac visit. It's always good practice to survey the stone and kerb race at this stage. It can highlight any high or low points in the stone which can be addressed before tarmacing and secondly if there are any arguments in the future at topping level, there is evidence of a survey to help with any counter-arguments.

Build and Design of a road

This section of the job was not designed by the clients so I was tasked to come up with a solution to create a new access route to site. There was the initial survey of the existing ground, the design element, approval and finally the execution of the job.

Setting out footpaths

Another example where design and build had to come into play in order for a MUGA pitch to join onto an existing footpath and ensure falls were compliant to those of disability, hence the winding nature of this path.

A historic moment

I took this picture over 10 years ago and it was the first kerb line I'd ever set out. Thousands of meters and many sore thumbs later, here I am today.
